Home to Uganda's wild rhinos — and the only place in the country where you can track them on foot.
Conservation
Uganda's wild rhino population was wiped out in the 1980s by poaching and war. In 2005 Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary opened with four white rhinos — today more than 40 roam freely across the sanctuary's 70 km².
This is the only place in Uganda where you can see wild rhinos. Tracking is done on foot with a ranger who reads hoof prints, fresh dung and wind direction. You'll often get within 10–20 metres.

Meet the ranger team, hear the sanctuary's story, and learn how to read the signs.
A calm walk through the bush — the ranger leads, you follow the wind.
White rhinos are surprisingly calm. You stand still, they keep grazing.
The sanctuary sits perfectly on the road to Murchison Falls — we love to combine the two.
