Murchison Falls

Where the White Nile is forced through a 7-metre cleft in the rock — Uganda's most dramatic spectacle.

About the park

Uganda's largest and oldest national park

Murchison Falls National Park spans nearly 4,000 square kilometres across the White Nile. Here the river squeezes through a narrow gorge and plunges 43 metres into a cloud of mist — the roar carries for miles.

The park is home to over 76 mammal species and 450 birds. Lions on the savanna, giraffes among borassus palms, elephants at the riverbank, and Nile crocodiles the size of boats. On the upstream boat safari you'll often spot hippos by the hundred.
